Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

People here need encouragement not harmful info
Yes, that's important to point out also----- doctors DO make mistakes sometimes.

***People here need encouragement not harmful info***
Information is not harmful. It could be false, but that isn't the case here.
A person worrying about a popliteal cyst being a clot probably is harmful to them, in terms of angst.
I suggested, just get it looked at----- but don't go to the doctor that RetNav went to. LOL
I know my doctor gave me an inhaler and sent me on my way.
I tell this story all the time, but over 4 years later it still chaps my ass: By the time I saw the 3rd doctor asking for help , my DVT had climbed from the bottom of my calf up over my knee up to the top of my thigh and he said in response to my intense pain (based on the original phlebitis diagnosis) that I should just "go to the gym and work through the pain." The next morning I collapsed outside from a massive PE in both lungs.
I have wonderful doctors now and I'd consider my current "team" to be excellent. Most docs are competent and but there are a-holes out there that will kill you .
As time goes on, I worry less about getting another DVT and can make logical leaps about what may be causing pain or a lump or redness in my DVT leg. I think most people will experience discomfort in their DVT leg for a while if not a life time, and those of us with PTS well that's an ongoing battle.
Information is of course not bad, by definition. We're all pretty intelligent and capable people here. We obviously have access to computers and know how to google. I think sharing information that leads to meaningful discussions is great . At times, though, it does feel like a gun shot spray of irrelevant information.
How does a person determine what's irrelevant?
LOL
Nuff said.
[Baker's cyst = popliteal cyst]
From:
http://www.patient.co.uk/health/Baker's-Cyst.htm
"Having a Baker's cyst can also increase your risk of developing a deep vein thrombosis even if the cyst does not rupture. For this reason, anyone who is found to have a Baker's cyst should also have a DVT excluded. Similarly, anyone who is found to have a DVT should be examined and investigated for a possible Baker's cyst."

Small saphonous vein and popliteal vein are in fairly close proximity.

"Although an infrequent occurrence, a Baker's cyst can compress vascular structures and cause leg edema and a true DVT."
