By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

PE to Ironman

Further to the posts about things we can do as well as things we cannot as lifers..... Just got back from a week diving in Cozumel (as well as a few margaritas....), and am starting my main training block leading to Ironman Canada in Whistler, British Columbia. I did Ironman Arizona about 6 months before I got sick with PEs the first time, feel like it's time to up the distance again for the challenge.

So, barring injury I will toe the line Aug 25 for the Ironman, probably wearing the Clotbuster race top. From 2X multiple bilateral PEs with lung infarction to Ironman.

I'm impressed! That is great!! Show everyone what PE survivors can do (including us relative newbies who some days doubt we'll ever make it around the block without SOB again). Thanks for the inspiration!

Awesome, glad you're feeling up to the challenge! I had been considering training for IM before I was diagnosed with PE, so glad to hear that there's light at the end of the tunnel. (Of course I'd settle for being able to run mile right now) Hope training goes well!!

Yeah!!!!! So Awesome!!! I will be thinking of you during training and especially on race day! You give me hope to do another IM in the future. IM Canada is suppose to be incredible.

Way to go! You are an inspiration to us newbies.

I never want to run an IM or do the Ironman but just being able to get back to "normal" would be nice! I am trying my best to start adding just some plain walking to my recovery. For me, that is an IM!!! LOL

Congrats and let us know how things turn out. We will be waiting to hear your good news in August!

Wow, it's already been weeks... Just checking back in, had a pretty good race. Swim took an hour, bike took 6, but run melted down and took 5:45. Total of 13:00 Still and all, happy to be out there racing, and thinking about going back next year to try again. Whistler is gorgeous.

I am now re-addicted to racing. Last Sunday I did an 11 mile trail race, last 2 miles were on a single track cut into the side of a steep mountainside, and was able to run sub 8 splits down the hill without falling :) Doc would be mortified.

Heading to Miami next Friday for a half ironman

Also got into Escape From Alcatraz triathlon next June. I've already done that swim 3X, but not since the PEs.

Thanks to all for the donations and encouragement. Raised about $4500 for the NBCA.

WooHoo! Way to go Chris! So glad you are back and love racing again. Great job at IM Canada! Was looking forward to your post about the race. You are certainly a great inspiration!

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
