By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Off Warfarin

9 months post PE and my dr is having me discontinue the Warfarin. I am excited and scared at the same time.

I think that's great. I know it's scarey but try to feel positive about it.

My doctor stopped it at 6 months. I was not scared. Not having to worry about getting cut, or in my case bit is great. (I volunteer for the local animal shelter so getting bit, is a bigger concern than many people.) We did wait a month, and then tested for clotting factors. (Still waiting for the results.) Enjoy not worrying about IRN and such!!

It's a wonderful milestone to hit. Congrats. It's normal to feel apprehensive and excited too. I've done super well off warfarin, enjoy life again after over one year since my PE. Stay positive and I wish you all the best!

Yay! Congrats! I just came off anticoagulants too. I feel great, and want to tell everyone to touch my skin. (It's clearing up nicely.) I agree that it's normal to feel scared, but I think that'll go away w/ time.
