Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I am finding it a little frustrating we are all coming back with the same answers of "the docs say it shouldn't be"! At least we have each other, so we know we aren't crazy!
It is a day to day situation, and every person is going to experience it differently, though I also experienced the symptoms of the clots after the fact. The knife analogy is a very good one! As several people have mentioned, take it easy and don't push it too hard! I ended up getting mono because I was trying to get back to "normal" too quickly. My best advice is to never feel guilty about taking a nap!
This kind of statement from doctors gets my blood boiling and (IMHO) sends many of us through round after round of unnecessary testing and can (in some cases) terrify us because we're convinced we've got cancer somewhere or something else equally scary.
In my mind, this is like taking the guy who grew up outside of Chernobyl and being confused over why he has cancer now. There IS a cause.
Anyway ... my little rant. Maybe there is a secondary cause, but I think most of the time the Pill can, and IS the primary cause.
This is a wonderful group!
I am only a month out from my PE's and DVT.
I still get tired but not as easily as I did at first.
I still have killer lower back pain!
I don't like to sleep on my left side yet. That is where the pain started.
Mine is caused because of a Genetic Mutation I got from BOTH my parents. Rare but true. LOL
I do believe the Birth Control pill can cause PE's.
They took me off mine and won't let me back on them.
