Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Hi, I am new to this group. Was diagnosed with PE a week ago (Friday9/29), I was hospitalized over night. I had knee surgery two weeks before the PE and was not at risk for clots, my surgeon has no idea why this happened to me. When I was released from the hospital I was not given much direction as to what I should/should not be doing. The only thing I was told was to lay low, nothing strenuous for a week and to follow up with my primary doctor within the week and was given a note to return to work this coming Monday (10/9). I have an appointment with my primary doctor on Monday morning before work and I really do not know what to expect. I do not work a desk job, I am on my feet all day with a lot of bending and squatting and heavy lifting. Is a week out of work enough? I'm still having chest pains, coughing and lots of fatigue I take a mid day nap every day. The PE has also pushed back recovery from my knee surgery.

Sounds like you either need more time off work and/or light duties/graduated return to work.

@jobeanvt Sorry to hear about your PE but welcome to the group. You should really speak with your doctor before going back to work. I do not think its a good idea for you to go back so fast from what you are telling me. I will be out of work for 6 weeks and depending how I feel after the six weeks I will decide with my doctors if I am ready. PE takes a toll on your body. Plus you have to recover from you knee surgery. You as the patient need to speak with your doctor and let them know how you are feeling and if you are not ready speak to the doctors about this so they can help you. I have three different doctors I am seeing first the primary doctor, then a blood doctor and a lung doctor plus I am going to the coumadin clinic to check my levels for my blood thinning meds. Always get a second opinion as this is your health and you are the only one that knows how you feel. I wish you the very best. Let me know if this helped. God bless.

I am 4 months out from multiple PEs after gallbladder surgery . I still get short of breath on exertion and still have the fatigue . I sleep way more than I ever have and nap as well. I’m a retired OR nurse but I can assure you there’s no way I could go back to work so soon . Def talk to your Dr , your body needs to heal .

I am new too. Your not alone I was given the exact same advice with a prescription for blood thinners and I see my Dr tomorrow for my follow up. Absolutely no idea on what to expect next and feeling worn down with all the residual symptoms still occurring. I’m not one to rush to the ER but I really feel like for such a serious health issue that Drs really don’t explain enough upon first diagnosis and once you realize you almost died the aniexty kicks in.

Hi, I am new to the group. I was trying to find some answers on PE and found this post. I was diagnosed the earlier part of June while on vacation, with clot in the left leg and clots in the lungs, i'm on the medication, however lately I am having a lot of chest pains off and on Tylenol helps but it is difficult to sleep. I read a post that a heating pad helps, I am going to try that. Anyone else having the same issue at 4 months?
