Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Hello everyone. I was placed on oral contraceptives to reduce ovarian cysts in November 2016. I started having chest pains on June 14th 2017. I traveled to Las Vegas from North Dakota and had pain and shortness of breath the whole time I was there. When I returned home on Sunday June 18th the pain got worse. I was short of breath I couldn't breathe in without pain. By Tuesday June 20th around 9pm I could barely breathe at all and the pain was unbearable. I went to ER. They did chest xray, ultra sound & ct. The ct showed lots of clots in both my lungs with a larger one in my right one. I was in the hospital for 3 days. They started me on Eliquis for 3-6 months. I have a follow up appointment tomorrow and I have a list of questions to ask.
The only risk factor I have is the birth control. I struggle working a full day and am too exhausted to even play with my kids at night.
So many doctors said "you could have died" "You are lucky to be alive" I am struggling mentally & physically. I am so confused because they discharge you from the hospital even after they say those things and tell you to listen to your body!! Ok well my body is tired and I don't want to die!! I have 2 beautiful children who are 8 and 2. I need to be here for them. I am struggling mentally and physically.
This is a great place to read and feel like I'm not alone. So if anyone has any recovery tips please share. Thank You!

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
This type of health scare totally messes with your head. So, take care of your emotional health too. I know I had a lot of anxiety after being diagnosed. I actually got a little bit of counseling for it. Not saying that you need that, just that sometimes the psychological component is harder to cope with the physical component and it's so that part deserves attention too.
For real, you are going to be ok.
Get plenty of rest. I was SO TIRED for a number of months. I know that's hard with little kids, though. Be careful with hardcore cardiovascular exercise to begin with as well. I did pretty well with everyday activities (besides fatigue), but sometimes overdoing cardio would lead to chest pain/exhaustion days afterwards.
Keep coming here or finding other understanding support to help with the anxiety of it all. I have had waves of feeling okay and feeling extreme anxiety since it happening.
