Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I can't comment on whether or not you are likely to have a clot that fast as that's for the medical professionals but I can share my experience. I have had two lots of PE now so I'm on warfarin for life and my doctor is really careful about making sure I'm in therapeutic range. Last week my INR dropped to 1.7 as well and my doctor immediately started me on injections to bridge between that day and when my INR got in range again. I was wondering the same sort of thing as you Karen. How low does your INR have to go before it is ineffective? Am I covered if my INR is 2.0 but at high risk if it is 1.9? I've seen some research that says anything above 1.5 is OK but if that is the case why did I have to have the bridging heparin injections? As usual in this field seem to be differences in medical opinion and we have to remember that everyone has different medical histories so some people will be at higher risk than others.
If you're worried I suggest you seek out medical advice.
Take care,
Kaz
I have an appt with the gp at 10.30 so fingers crossed. I wasn't due to test inr again for another 5 weeks, if I didn't have my own machine then I'd have had no idea my inr had dropped. I can't workout why it went from 2.7 to 1.7 in 8 days :-/
Anyway I'll let you know when I come back, thanks for the reply and hope you're well

Anyway with my history and the way my leg is she said it's probable that I do have a dvt but she obviously can't commit to that. Just so fed up, the one saving grace is at least I had my own machine and was able to check it out. I could murder a huge gin and lime now!!

So sorry to hear about your suspected DVT - but just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed that it isn't! Great that your GP sent you to hospital though - better to be safe than sorry hey! Also, I so need one of those machines...! Lots of love x
have pretty much same palava!!down to 1.9 inr and leg hurting after being back to near 'normal'am on clexane till app for another inr test on monday is driving me crazy!!hope all goes ok with you
Stupid quesion: apart from taking the drugs, keeping a stable diet, avoiing cranberies is there anything you can actively do to get your INR in that magic therapeutic range?
I spent a night in hospital but everything is ok. I'm waiting to have a 24 hr heart monitor because of the wild palpitations I keep having. The good thing is my inr has finally got into range and touch wood seems to be staying there! I have absolutely no idea what made it drop so much, I can't think of anything different I'd had to eat or drink. My tummy is still bruised to hell from the jabs and now it's more blood tests next week, I hate needles!!!
