By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I was rececently discharged from the hospital after I was put on Fragmin Shots. I was a Coumedin Failure (so the docs said), as I had been theraputic on Coumedin for 2 months and all of a sudden I got NEW DVT's in BOTH legs!!! Anyways.......
The first 4 shots I had, I got 50 cent size dark purple bruises and it stung soooo bad when the medicine was going in. I have a nurse that comes in my home once a week and she showed me how to give the shots and believe it or not, I HAVE NOT HAD A BRUISE SINCE AND IT HAS NOT STUNG ONCE!!!!!!!!
This is her instructions;
Always clean the site with an alcohol pad
1- Make sure the needle eye is facing you when you administer the shot. The needle eye is a small hole at the end of the needle you can see if you look real good.
2) Make sure the needle is going in at a 90 degree angle. Straight in and not at an angle.
3) If you are skinny, you need to "pinch the skin", however, if you are heavier, do not pinch the skin, instead seperate your thumb and pointer finger about an inch and a half and PUSH your skin down
4) Insert the needle into your abdomen all the way
5) Push the medicine in SLOWLY until it is all in!!!!! (This allows the medicine time to go in and will STOP the stinging)
6) Once medine is all in you you can pull the needle out quickly.
I swear, this has worked for me for my last 3 shots! No stinging and no dark purple bruising! Let me know if it works on you too!!!

Unfortunately it didn't work for me.....still stung and bruised but I'll keep trying :-)

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus).
