Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
2011 has been probably the worst year of my life. Ended a relationship, moved out of his house, had a fire, where the fire department had to bust in my door to get my animals out (thankfully they were both saved), dealt with my ex stalking me and threatening to sue me for "custody" of the dogs, his verbal rants and name calling during the separation and for weeks therafter, and one week after i threatened a restraining order, in the hosiptal with a pulmonary embolism. I had numerous clots in both lungs, clots in my leg, and b/c i waited so long to get treatment, necrosis set in my lungs. This was jus the first 6 months of the year. LOL.
Since then, I have made dramatic changes in my life, for the better. I have lost 25 pounds, I focus on my health, I make sure I drink enough water during the day (as they think that is what caused my PE to begin with, dehydration combined with the pill and some weight gain during the end of my relationship). I try to take each day as it comes, and even though my job can be stressful and, well, i won't post too much about that, I don't let it bother me as much. I won't let my health take a back seat. I use to approach life negatively, and, i think I have changed that around, and am so much more of a positive person. I undertand that I am imcredibly lucky to be alive and well. Hopefully the changes that I have made are not short lived.
Anyway, I took my last dose of Warfarin on Saturday. I go in for a Doppler and more genetic tests on Tuesday, and I see the hematologist on Friday. If all is good, I will be done with treatment, can go get back on birth control (either IUD or the mini pill), and life goes on as normal. I am sure I will get anxiuos at times about whether more clots are forming. All I can do is hope for the best and stay positive.
When I was diganosed on June 17th, I never would have thought I would be off coumadin already, feel as good as a I feel, and ready to move on from this. There is hope out there for anybody newly diagnosed. I felt horrible for WEEKS AND MONTHS after my PE and could never have imagined that literally over night, my syymptoms would just go away!
But, I am looking forward to 2012....it has to be a better year! LOL
