Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Would it be normal or common to start having leg pains from the clotting 13 months after the initial incident? I want to see if anyone else out there has had delayed onset of pain from the clotting. With me, I initially had what seemed like a pulled muscle- a real sharp pronounced "event", and then after that, although my leg became swollen, there really wasn't much pain other than the uncomfortable feeling caused by the swelling. Recently, since I have stopped the Coumadin, I had cramps in my left non-dvt leg on last Friday night, and now today, I am having some pain in my right calf, sporadically when walking, and also in the heel of my right foot. My vein surgeon said that I might have problems down the road with my legs due to the size of my clots, but I really wasn't feeling much change up until now
I am headed to the hematologist for my 1 month follow up in a couple hours and I will pose this question, but I wanted to see if I can get some perspective from some of us that have been through this before.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
If I have to go back on the bloodthinner, would they just start me off on coumadin, or would they start with Lovenox until the coumdadim got to the right range?
And for the record, I do consider this a different situation than the 'ultrasound or not' topic. That's talking about whether to get a routine, follow-up, just for the heck of knowing exactly what's there ultrasound. Your situation is that you have new pain you haven't been experiencing, so I consider that a different situation entirely.
If you do have to start warfarin again, they'll almost definitely start you with lovenox too. Starting warfarin can cause an odd side effect of making your blood clot too much, until you're therapeutic, and the lovenox prevents that problem from happening. I too had initially thought since I had been safely on warfarin before I wouldn't need to do the shots, but I actually was off and back on warfarin twice after my initial DVT, and each time I started again, I had to take the shots also until I got to therapeutic levels.
I hope everything is okay, though, and this is just some kind of weird, errant, temporary pain. Let us know what you find out, though.
God knows I make friends wherever I go with my opinions, ha ha!
Let us know what happens, ok?
