By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Okay, this clutz fell again on the ice, yesterday, on the same side as on Thursday. didn't hit my head, but landed on the exact same spot on my left hip.
Last night, it was VERY swollen and hurt so much I could hardly move the leg. Woke this morning, still had pain but it's much better painwise.
I've been monitoring the bruise tonight and it is now HUGE. It's about the size of a honey melon, and is VERY dark, almost black.
Should I be worried? I'm on Coumadin and I've never seen such a huge bruise. It has grown about 10 times since this morning.

Then they moved me to the the more serious ER wing, the one with all the HR monitors that I was in when I had my PE.
After an X-ray of my hip, turned that I just have a very big bruise and lots of swelling due to the bleeding. I was discharged with orders to keep icing it and to watch out for signs of internal bleeding, such as numb or paralysed leg, etc.
I asked if I'd been overcautious having it checked and doctor said definately no: they had to ensure that there was no break and no internal bleeding.
