Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Hey Everyone -
So, at the beginning I wasn't losing any hair and I was stoked about it. Then about 2 months after I was diagnosed I started losing tons of hair. I have read a lot of the past posts about hair loss being from the body trauma and the Warfarin. I have been on Biotin supplements since before I started losing the hair. Now i have been losing mass amounts of hair for a month and have a little less than half of my normal hair amount.
What I am curious about is everyone else's experience with this. I am wondering how long the severe hair loss episode lasts. What you did that helped prevent it from continuing. Is it even worse when your INR is high? Just trying to figure out if this will just continue until all my hair is gone. Ugh.

Nationalday.com proclaims September 28th as Self Aware Day. I took a few snaps of various core values lists and tried to pick my top five core values (kinda hard to only pick 5). But here are my top picks. Feel free to list a few of yours too:GodLovePeaceStability Compassion

Now that I am not talking to my whatever best friend, I realized that her life is full of drama. I had grown tired of hearing her stories about her boyfriend many months ago. She basically had been monopolizing conversations for that long too. She pretty much stopped asking me questions about me. I passed her in front of her classroom the other day and didn't even look at her. I am...

How is ur INR? What dose r u on?
Weird, because I am pretty much in range, but two weeks ago at 1.9 it seemed like I was losing hair still but it was getting lighter (I was so excited and thought it may be the end of this nightmare) and then this week, I am at 2.9 and last night I lost so much hair in the shower I wanted to cry.
Let me know if your doctor has any advice. This totally sucks. I just feel super self-conscience about it. When I run my hands through it, there isn't much there. :(
The same thing happened to me. About a month after starting warfarin, I noticed a lot of hair coming out in my hands when I washed it. For me, it has become more like a cycle, so I'm not losing it all at once, but for a couple of weeks I will, then it slows down for a month and then starts up, and I notice baby hairs coming in, even though I'm on warfarin. What helped me was keeping my hair trimmed more often and playing with my part, to make it look fuller. My hair stylist said she can tell I've lost some a little, but that it's not nearly as much as I perceive it to be.
Once you're off warfarin, the hair loss does stop.
1) Yes, trauma and major stress can cause hair loss, and the lag is usually 6 weeks from the event. Stress can "shock" the hair follicles and they shut down for a while, but it takes several weeks for the new hairs to start growing in and they slowly push the old hairs out (hence, the delay in loosing it, varies depending on how fast your hair grows and duration of the stressful event).
2) There is some hope! I have had hair problems LONG before the PE. Originally diagnosed as genetic, but last year also discovered my thyroid was failing so it's hard to say for sure what the original cause was. That said, I saw a dermatologist who gave me a prescription for men's strength Minoxidil (rogaine). When I use it, it works really well. In all honesty, before the PE I was hap-hazard about using it. It makes my scalp itch something fierce, so I used to only put it on in the AM (should be used 2x a day), and sometimes gave myself a weekend off, etc. After the PE my hair started falling out much worse! My DH made comments and I was noticing it too, so I started using the Rogaine am/pm religiously and it has worked WONDERS! My hair hasn't been this thick since I was a teenager! I have to use dandruff shampoo, and sometimes topical anti-itch stuff, and I still give myself a weekend off here and there, but it's totally worth the effort and minor discomfort. Of course, I'm not a dermatologist so I can't tell you if it's OK for any of the other women out there to use the men's strength, but the men should try it for sure, and maybe the women should talk to their doc or derm about it.
Cheers!
