By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Was lazing about watching the TV yesterday and happened to watch the programme 'Diagnosis Murder'
Basically this woman had killed two of her husbands using warfarin/cumadin in their food. One died of a stroke and the other from a brain bleed after she pushed him over.
What made my laugh though was the fact she then gave the detective one dose of warfarin in a drink together with a sleeping pill. Then she told him that this would immediately make him fall over and bleed to death from his injuries!
Luckily (!) for him a doctor was standing outside the door so he could rush in and give him a huge shot of Vitamin K, thus saving his life!
Now I know this was a fictional programme but I think it would have worried me if had to go on warfarin soon after this. Those of us who had to have a week or more of clexane injections would have loved it to have worked that quickly!
Like I said it made me laugh. When did I get to be such an expert. Have noticed people dont like to watch these kind of programmes around me any more. I wonder why!

I watched an episode of House where a woman had a PE. It was actually quite realistic but I was still watching with my white coat and stethescope on :o)
I never knew that about antifreeze and my hubby likes jelly... nah only kidding ;-) *saunters off whistling merrily*
