By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

First Sinus Infection

I have gotten a sinus infection and it is really kicking my butt. I guess this is also normal for someone only 3 months out from her PE and just trying to go back to work. This is another major setback. All I want to do is sleep and don't know whether or not to push myself. The doc gave me antibiotics yesterday.

I think viruses and infections are a part of living on this planet with other beings, and therefore, normal, regardless of having had a PE.

A sinus infection makes you feel miserable and so tired, and whether you feel it warrants taking a day off from work only you can say. I've always been prone to them, but since being on immunosuppressant drugs for my ulcerative colitis, I feel like I get them more and more frequently, so a few times I year I seem to be in this same boat. Usually within two days of taking antibiotics I start to feel better. So for me, I just kind of go to work and come home and conk out. But that's me. If you do decide to take a day off to rest, it's just a day, and you're not starting back to ground zero.

I didn't miss a lot of work prior to the PE, so for me, this is just kind of always how I operated. But you have to do what makes sense for you.

Yeah, I've had multiple sinus infections over the last couple of years. No fun at all ... and the antibiotics wreak havoc with your INR! Get tested in a few days.

In the meantime, get some rest! It can only help!

The pharmacist said it shouldn't hurt the INR, but I will take your advice. I was just given the go ahead to wait for another month on the INR, but that was before the antibiotics. Also, I don't feel like eating, so that doesn't help. Since I've been on prednisone for the last few years, I get everything that is going around. I'll be back at work tomorrow.

I had a sinus infection not that long ago ad boy, did it kick my butt! They always do, but I did find post PE was even more so. Heck I am already tired enough, but then add that into it? wow! After a week and a half of being sick, I went to a local walk-in near me (my own doctor not available at the time) and was diagnosed. I told the doc there I was on coumadin and he assured me he was giving me something that would be ok. When I called my doctors office the next day to let them know, they were fine with what I had been prescribed, but did want my INR checked sooner than planned for the reason TNT stated.... it can wreak havoc. Sure enough, it did. Don't get me wrong, I was fine, just letting you know my experience.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
