Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Well, if they didn't find any other clots, there shouldn't be anything else to travel and get stuck in your lungs. Also, once the clot is in your lungs, it doesn't have anywhere else to go. The blood vessels get so narrow there that only one blood cell at a time can get through, so a clot can't move.
It sounds like you have gotten great care so far. I'm glad that they diagnosed the clot as quickly as they did; for many people the diagnosis alone can be a struggle. In my experience a faster diagnosis tends to result in faster healing.
I will tell you that the mental recovery from PE can be a lot harder than the physical recovery. Make an appointment ASAP to go in and see whoever helps you with your panic attacks and make a plan. This might be a good time to really think about additional meds, meditation, journaling, or whatever else helps keep you calm. Make a plan for how to help yourself mentally ... don't just tough it out. This is definitely a good time to ask for extra support in this area.
Deep breath! You're going to be fine!
