Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Through my PE and DVT ordeal, i have been asking why? Why did I get this, what put me at risk? and really got no answers. 2 hospital, a hematologist, and 2 primary care doctors. No answers.
I went today to see my Gyno for an IUD and he told me that he spoke with my hematologist and she gave me the go ahead, but he threw in there, a protein S deficiency. I was said, wait, go back, what did I have? and he said, i was low to normal. And I had him explain that, and told him i was never told that before.
So, walking around every day, i am normal, but towards the lower end, so when i went on the pill, that dropped to low, and hence, the blood clot. If I ever get pregnant, the same thing would happen, and I would be at risk. I just wanted to know why. I get they don't always have answers, but having that explained to me was a huge relief, and angry that I have been asking questions for 9 months, and everybody else just stared at me blankly.

Does your therapy change, or are you on warfarin/coumadin for life?
I have no answers as to my own clots, but I'm glad you got yours :)
Getting "the news", 11 months out, that there was something underlying was a huge bummer, worse than the dx and hospitalization itself. Still, I sensibly knew that what was, was; and that in time it would be a good thing to at least know. A good thing it has been.
