Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
If it's old hat---- then S.O.B. is a good rule to follow. (Scroll On By----not short of breath!)
Too bad their statistical numbers have never been properly updated though (The DVT Coalition is created and funded by Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceuticals - makers of Lovenox). Brochure states up to 2 million Americans each year, but the actual reference they cite is incorrect on their part since the author made an estimate that it "could possibly effect up to 2 Million Americans" each year; he didn't know. The CDC, Surgeon General, Venous Disease Coaliton, and National Blood Clot Association numbers are closer to reflecting accurate statistics, but even then, they are not 100% accurate due to the way DVT/PE incidents are reported (some States like Virginia have report PE as a heart related condition, or some number are reported twice). The Heit report by Dr. John Heit is closer to reality, though still having known deficiencies (reporting an occurence twice). Just my 2 cents.
Good brochure regardless.
Yeah---you'd think serious diseases would co-relate. Or correlate. Or get their acts together.
I'm no stranger to skewed and incorrect statistics because of my all too familiar acquaintance with Lyme disease. The CDC only reports cases that are based on their woefully inadequate two tier testing and using a Western blot test that doesn't take into consideration that there ARE other strains out there and that there IS a west coast in the U.S.
Now, see what I've done to my BP!!!
And the ankle circles and shoulder rolls while watching TV. Not as good as getting up and walking around---- but what can I say?
Thank goodness for having to pee a lot---- now THAT does get me up and moving! (grin)
I definitely have been making use of those exercises while being pretty much bed bound while I fight off this cold. It's been a long week!
