By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Sorry for repeat post. This was also in a discussion titled "Frustrated", but I wanted to title this one more appropriately.
Had a Massive PE 2/14. On Xarelto 20 mg, recently saw a pulmonary doc due to some SOB and pain. She ordered CT Scan and Echo last week.
My Ct Scan showed my lungs were clear, awesome. Unfortunately, my echo showed pulmonary artery systolic pressure is estimated to be 47 (it was 52 before). So 6 months after PE, my pressure is unchanged. My pulmonary specialist wants me to see a pulmonary hypertension center. There are two great ones I read in Baltimore, lucky me. Has anyone dealt with CTEPH this late after PE? My doctor also said they should do a heart cathiter to really measure the pressure and be more accurate, and that it can be done on Xarelto possibly. Or I can wait a few more months and get another Echo.I know this condition can improve, but I don't want to wait it out Anyone have a long recovery of pulmonary hypertension. I am 37 and healthy.

Ended up having pulmonary endarterectomy.
You'll need a heart catheter test to determine pressures.
I'm in UK and had to go to Papworth hospital for this. I believe there's only 4 hospitals worldwide that can perform this surgery so as you're in usa, you may end up in San Diego.
