Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Yeah, I did it. A big :P to the advice that you shouldn't walk around barefoot outside on coumadin (actually read that in a pamphlet). Heck, I wore a helmet.
Recently got back from a 2 week trip to Hawaii. Zip lined in Maui. Hooked up with a local bike shop and rode from Paia to the summit of Haleakala... 36 miles up with 10,023 feet in elevation gain, 36 miles down. Again, wore a helmet :) Took about 4.5 hours going up. Less than 1.5 coming down
In Kona, dove with dolphins, manta rays and white tip reef sharks. Saw a tiger shark from the surface that frequents one local spot, but unfortunately didn't see it underwater. Swam 12 miles over the two weeks in the open ocean, training for a 10K swim this weekend.
Coumadin? Meh...... :)
What have you done lately that would make your doc roll his or her eyes?

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.

I ride my bike in busy city traffic too and I've had accident, before I was on warfarin,and it was just carelessness on my part. Since then I've been fine, and I think it's merely because I'm just paying attention more than anything else, which would serve anyone who rides a bike well, whether they're on warfarin or not.

What have I done that would make my doc's eyes roll? Well, nothing as huge as diving with dolphins and reef sharks (darn!). Hmmm... Well, I reduced and secured a prolapsed rectum on a box turtle without incident very recently. My doctor is wonderful but would definitely give me an eye roll for that one.
I ended up in the hospital with a bruised spleen after a mt. bike wreck in CO a couple of weeks ago. The awesome thing was that every dr and nurse that treated me was a mt bike rider. So even though I was facing a possible splenectomy, not one said you shouldn't have been riding. They all just talked to me about the trail I had been on. One nurse even told me she was proud of me for still riding.

I agee! While I wouldn't include zip lining in that---- I have to say I wouldn't have included that in my younger and healthier days either.

Oh forgot, also did stand up paddling for the first time and even caught a couple waves. haven't caught a wave in probably 20 years!
didn't work with any turtles. LOL, but saw lots while paddling and swimming. Even ran into one - literally - last weekend on my long swim, just hung out at the surface with it as it breathed.

Also -- and this has nothing to do with warfarin -- I saw brand-new, fresh-hatched baby loggerhead turtles walking from the nest down to the ocean for their first swim. Beyond cute!
