Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

It would be so nice if my doctor (GP) would at the very least be consistent with what he tells me each visit! So frustrating at times. I went to see him yesterday to discuss the plans my hematologist has. (I see him on tuesday, and the current plan is a repeat CT, then if given the clear, off the coumadin to repeat the genetic testing). My GP agreed which is all well and fine. But the problem is, he seems to change his opinion each visit on whether I should be a lifer or not. One visit (in the beginning) he didn't feel I should stay on it longer than needed (disagreeing with the hospital docs). Although one of his reason made me laugh a bit because he was talking about pregnancy... not possible for me to become accidently pregnant as he is well aware... but anyway. Then, he thought I should more than likely stay on b/c of the risk of reclotting. Yesterday, it was the opposite again. ugh!!!
He also told me that he feels I clotted soley because I was a smoker. Also quite different than from what other doctors have told me. He then added that he had no sympathy what so ever for my anxiety b/c I did in fact have trouble quitting. He is right, and I get that, but geeeezzzz... talk about brutal honesty! But again, he is right. Basically, he told me to suck it up and deal. Not that he said any of this in a mean spirited way, but I left sort of feeling like this was all my fault and I have no right to be nervous/complain.
So, looks like I will be off the coumadin shortly with little indication I will go back on. I pity my poor family and friends who are going to have to deal with me! LOL

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
It is like a doctor going well, you have heart disease but it was your choice to eat all those Big Macs so I'm not going to treat you. Seriously???
And I don't care how he says it ... it affected you in a bad way and that is the important thing. He works for you, not the other way around. And I can tell you that having a supportive relationship with your doctor is helpful in every way.
And, I personally dumped a doctor in the last year who couldn't remember my medical history. Every time I came in, I'd have to remind her that I was a lifer on warfarin and why. Made me nervous. She can't remember the most basic thing about me and she's talking about surgery and so on.
This guy sounds like a flake. He can't remember that you can't get pregnant. He changes his mind on a whim. He's dissing you for something that is perfectly normal (struggling with quitting smoking). Seriously.
Move on! You deserve better.
The way some doctors behave ... it just makes me grit my teeth!
Hang in there. If you can find someone helpful to see before your insurance runs out, I would. If not, I'd disregard this guy's instructions and listen to some of your other, more trustworthy docs.
Best wishes! Don't internalize his comments; you're doing the best you can under difficult circumstances.
You want a provider who is in this with you, not one who makes you feel like you're crazy. Run!
I guess he got to me because what he said is, in part, one of the things I have been dealing with in therapy. And he, in one 10 minute visit, pretty much undid everything I had worked towards. Know what I mean? The things I had been questioning, concerned about, blaming myself for, he "confirmed". He's not the type of doctor to sugar coat anything, which is all well and fine.... but... I was just a little taken aback by the whole thing.
He did also tell me that my chance of reclotting was very small, but somehow, he didn't comfort me at all! LOL
In fairness she does occasionally forget details but I'm not to worried about that I just remind her- I figure it would be pretty hard to remember all details of your patients but she's pretty good. The down side I have to travel just under an hour to get to her office - but more than prepared to do that given the level of treatment it's worth it.
So I'd say shop around and find a better dr! Good luck with ur insurance concerns.
I'm in oz so don't really understand the US health system - is there no free/low cost public health system?
Well, I am sure it will all work out somehow. In the meantime, I may go on a few rants here. lol My apologies in advance! :o)
