Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Yes, I wear a compression stocking on one leg only, the one that had the DVT. I have damgaed lymph nodes in that leg which causes it to swell. The stocking helps keep the swelling to a minimum. I use the ones that are in the 20-30 range. These are the highest compression you can get without a prescription. I don't think the brand makes that much difference.
I your leg gets swollen, or too swollen, it creates scar tissue. Too much scar tissue, and you can develope severe pain. If this happens, there is not much that can be done for the resulting pain. That said, If you have swelling, use the stockings.
As far as pain? I never had any with my DVT, so can't talk to much about that. All I ever really experience is a dull ache when my leg gets really swollen and/or tired.
Hope this helps.
