By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
well, it's been a long 6 month roller coaster, but i can't believe the 6 months is actually up. I was diagnosed 7/1, which would have me off the warfarin on 1/1. But I have been cooped up on the bike trainer for the last 6 months, I want to ride outside on 1/1. So my pulmonologist said I could stop 12/24. Merry Xmas to me :)
Follow up CT was normal. I had a D dimer last week, and then will have one 2, 4 and 6 weeks after stopping warfarin. That's the last hurdle (any sharp jump in D dimer will have to be assessed, but my genetic testing came back negative, so....)
