I was also scared coming off the warfin but I felt way better after. The warfin effected my stomache. After you have a clot you always worry about having another one but over time you will worry less and less especially if your genetic tests come back negative.

Yeah, I just came off 12/24. I thought I'd be more excited, no restrictions on food or activity,,,,, but it's a little bit like now I've got no safety net. It also makes me realize I need to take myhealth seriously, and do what I can (whatever that is) to prevent a recurrence.

Although they didn't find a source, all of my genetics came back negative so I am banking on that it was sue to a set of circumstances, I'll do my best to avoid those in the future.

My body also didn't like warfarin. Seemed to screw with my digestion, etc. So I am happy to not have those issues....

I know your anxiety. I came off couamdin two weeksa go after being on it for 13 months. It's exciting yet scary. I was supposed to do my genetic testing for blood disorders yesterday but the doctor had to cancel. So, now I will have to wait till January. Once those are done I will feel better.
No weekly blood draws..no worry about how much greens i am eating...you became so used to those worries...you almost feel lost without them! The doctor said I could forgo the compression stockings if i don't swell...but I have been afraid to try. I told myself I would wait until the weather warms and then will try.
My doctor has me on a 325mg asprin to transision off the coumadin. I go back in 2 months for my follow up scan.

I agree with bubbles410. It is scary to get of of the thinners (mine was lovenox but same basic effect) It's scary at first but after a while its just a bad memory! lol I too feel much better off the thinners. I have been off of them since March 2008 so almost two years and doing good! No clots! I had a scare about 6 months ago but the leg pains we just a side effect of a medicine I was on. I have been off coumadin since the second week of November and had the rest of my genetic testing 5 weeks later. All came back negative so that helps ease any anxiety about future clots. Hopefully you'll see a difference in the amount of energy you have.....I did. That has been the best part, in addition to not having to watch so closely what I eat. I was a little nervous coming off of coumadin in the first few weeks as well, but do take an 81mg (baby aspirin) every day. The only rational my doctors had for a root cause was birth control and I'm off that for good too. Best of luck and hopefully time and knowledge from going through this situation will ease any fears of future clots.

I stopped warfarin on December 19th. I was severly intolerant to it, with extreme weight loss, fatigue, hair loss, memory loss, constantly throwing up ect. I was a little nervous about stopping it, but so far I'm feeling stronger every day. My mind seems to have cleared, I can now remember things, my hair is slowing in falling out, I feel less anxious and have completely stopped throwing up everything i eat. It's wonderful! I'm continuing on with baby aspirin and vitamin e, but so far so good.
Congrats on reaching this milestone. Just keep track of how you feel and monitor your body, but enjoy starting a new chapter of your life.
