Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
The first few months after diagnosis, I'd get what I can only describe as this feeling like a lightening bolt was going through my sternum. It was just be for a second but it was super intense. Scare the hell out of me. It eventually stopped. But I was just saying on another thread that I'm 7 years out from my PEs and I still get occasional weird chest pains out of the blue. I have had enough false alarms under my belt to know it's likely nothing so I tend to just brush them off now Like you said, they haven't killed me so I'm probably ok.
I'm 5.5 years out from my clots now, and they definitely decreased the further into recovery I got.
