By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

chest pain and fatigue

I was hospitalized on Dec 10 with my latest PE (my 1st PE was in 2005).

It was a small one and I bounced back really quickly.
I was back to working full-time, exercising, and everything after 2-3 weeks.

Now, 3.5 months out, I am soooo tired and the left side of my chest, where I had the PE, hurts.

Work has been a bit crazy and I sometimes work 10-11 hours days.
I'm sure that doesn't help.

Maybe I didn't give myself enough time to rest and heal? I'm pretty sure this is normal.
But I want reassurance from my friends here.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Beecute, my PE was a year and a half ago and I still get lung pain from time to time, but much less frequently. I used to be very concerned, but after hearing from others on here experiencing the same thing, my fears were eased. A good rule of thumb though is if you feel something is not right, talk to your doctor. We all heal differently and what is okay for me may not be for you. You are your own best advocate and need to speak up if you thing something may be wrong. I hope you feel better soon. Take care and God bless!

Hi, Beecute. I never bounced back quickly with my PE, but I had periods where I felt OK, and then suddenly didn't. And the area where I had my infarct sometimes acts up, to where it hurts when I breathe in a little deeper than normal. Other times, I never notice it.

Sometimes I think our lungs go through a healing process where they are "re-organizing" themselves, and that's when we notice things. (That's not a scientific opinion - just my general opinion as a way of trying to explain things to myself!)

Also, if you started working longer hours more recently, that may be the cause of it, too.

But like veeachjay says, you might want to run it by your doctor, anyway, since this has come up and it's different than what you've been experiencing.
