By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Hello everyone.

I have a question that I hope someone can address: before getting the clots, I never had high blood pressure? However, since the clots (one large clot in each lung and two DVTs in left leg), I now have high BP. I'm taking BP medication now and I don't like the side effects (dizziness, constipation). Is it safe to say that the clots brought on the High Blood Pressure? I suppose I should ask the Dr. next time I see him.

I am exactly the opposite. I always had borderline high blood pressure before my clots, but since my clots I have been in the low-normal range.

Same here; my BP went from normal to low normal. I'd check with your doc for his opinion why yours is high.

I had high blood pressure for 8 years before my blood clots and I have medication for it. My blood pressure has come down to normal, but I think that has more to do with the fact that I have lost 3.5 stone in weight since I had the clots. If you are overweight try and loose some, my consultant said its the best thing to do as overweight people are more prone to clotting. It could be that the clots put a strain on your heart and that's why your blood pressure is high, once you are well again and your heart is healed the blood pressure problem may right itself. Take care and check your concerns out with your Doctor

I also had high blood pressure just coming out of the hospital, and I had always been right at the normal range before. they attributed it to my HIGH INR. ( it was 6.6). Once my INR stabilized it has returned back to normal. The doc explained my arteries were clamping down since the blood was so thin. Yes, I didn't like the side effects of the med. Hot/ hungry and constipated. Hopefully you'll be able to go off of it soon.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
