I was on YAZ. I hadn't been on any bc at all for 7 years. I just used condoms. My bf is aprnoid about babies so we went to the ob/gyn togehter. I wanted an IUD. Since I've had no children she wanted me to try the YAZ instead.
My gut said no. I'll never ignore that feeling again. I was on the pill for three months to the day when I got my PE.

I've been on birth control since I was 18 (I am currently 20). I was on orthotrycyclin low, loestrin, and finally, yaz. I was diagnosed with a large PE in December. I was told to stop all birth control pills, however, my period is more irregular than it was before I started the pills and it's a lot heavier (I'm assuming coumadin is part of the reason). All my DVT studies and other ultrasounds are clear. All my bloodwork is clear. I have to stay on coumadin for a year though. I was wondering if any of you started taking birth control pills while on the coumadin. Do the same risks still apply? I know it's silly, but I'm becoming desperate as my cycle is completely haywire and extremely painful. Any feedback would be great

I was just diagnosed with multiple PE's on March 11th. They figure mine were caused from my BC and I was on Tri-Sprintec which is a generic to Ortho Tri-Cyclen.

I have been off BC since Nov. 2003 after a TIA. I was just diagnosed w/multiple PE's and one DVT on Mar. 3rd. I had blood drawn for genetic testing last Thurs so still waiting for the results of that. I can't remember the name of the BC I was on but think it may have been Ortho. It was low dosage as I had problems when I was put on BCs in Sep. 97 that caused my ovaries to hurt. Can PE's/DVT still be caused by BC if I've been off of it for six years? I believe my tests will come back that it is genetic as my mom has had problems w/blood clots in both legs almost all her adult years. She finally had a stint put in her vein in her leg and so far hasn't had any more clots in over a year after the procedure. She is 66 yrs. old and was in her early 20's when she had her first blood clot in leg during pregnancy w/my sister. None of the clots ever went to her lungs.

I was on Dianette when I was diagnosed though it is suspected that I already had an episode of PE a few years ago when I had just switched from Cilest to Cerazette due to the clotting risk - duh, probably too late!
As I have endometriosis and it's bad for me to have natural periods I am now on Cerazette again which suits me fine. It's a progesterone-only pill so even though it warns on the packet just like any other pill, there is no known increased risk for clotting.
Caffiend, this might be a solution for you? Otherwise, this morning when I was at the gyno's he mentioned that he thought it would be ok to be on the combined pill whilst on warfarin as long as your INR is therapeutic. Not sure whether that's a generally accepted opinion, though.

Runner's World forums have a few posts from the active PE-affected. Both here and there, with the ladies sometimes as tragically young as their teens, b/c is involved at least as often as not. Just this morning at anticoag clinic was an out-of-place 40ish woman, 7 years into a life on Warfarin, who was one of those badly affected by the patch.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen is what I was on.

I took Yasmin for about 4 months when I had multiple PE's. I'm on a six-month course of warfarin. I'm now two months out from the PE and I've had one heavy period and one light period. Everything's out of whack again, but I guess I'll have to live with it.

I started Yazmin (Yaz) three months before PE. I had been on long flight a month earlier plus I had been in bed a lot the previous month due to depression but I really believe it was the BC Yaz that caused the PE. I have been on over 10 long flights in last 5 years and more in previous years with no problems. I had also been laid up with depression before with no problems. I think we should all get together and consider a class action suit (probably never win for me because of past stuff - flight, immobile, etc.)

As far as they can tell, my PEs were caused by pregnancy or my c-section. I really wanted to have 3 kids but I have changed that thought post-PE and I am going to be 39. Alittle too much chance for a repeat. I am concerned about birth control post-Warfarin. I am scheduled to be off the meds in May and supposedly I will be fine. I am really worried about taking BC again, especially with what everyone has been saying about their experiences. I had thought about getting my tubes tied - actually it was a recommendation from one of my OBs pre-c-section. Now I wish I had done it. I certainly don't want to risk the chance of another PE with another surgery! Augh!

I was just diagnosed with three small PEs on Feb 13th. I was on Yasmin for about 8 months for PCOS when it happened. I figure I had a DVT for about two weeks. I saw my doctor who thought it was just thromophelbitis. I'm 24, otherwise healthy, and a nurse of all ironies. I worked 40 hours a week on the floor even with my DVT and even did a shift with my PE. It was all a lot less dramatic then I thought.

Now I'm on coumadin, struggling to get my INR theraputic. As much as the birth control helped, I think I'd rather have had pimples and an irregular period then all this. :(

I was on Yaz when I got mine. I had been on Ortho Tricylen lo for 10yrs and a smoker. No problems ever. I switched to Yaz in Nov and was on a 4 hr flight. On Dec 29th I started having chest pains, bad chest pains. Jan 15th I was diagnosed. They rule out the flight because it was too long from the symptoms but believe it was the Yaz that did it. i am never allowed any estrogen treaments or estrogen bc. I am currently on Micronor a progesterone only BC.

I was on Yasmin when I had my first PE in 2005.
I was taking it continously (skipping the placebos).

I was on BC pills for 2 years before I had the PE, but I can't remember if I started with something different before going on Yasmin.

My PE was massive and bi-lateral.

I had my second PE in 2008 and was not on BC pills.
It was much smaller and only in one lung.

I do have a prothrombin gene mutation.
