By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Behind knee tightness?

Has anyone had pain/tightness behind their knee while on recovery? I was not dx with a DVT (or as the Doppler done in hospital on march 25 showed no DVT) so not sure why this pain has started.
I've been somewhat bed bound the last few days aside from gettin up to use the bathroom or get water to drink. This started Friday morning after spending majority of thursday in bed. Even sitting in my truck I can feel slight pressure/ discomfort behind the knee. With it being the weekend I can't reach my dr for advice. Is a visit to a walk in or the er needed for this pain?

I have but I had a DVT. If you're on warfarin, the chance of getting a DVT is really low. Maybe it's from not being very mobile lately or perhaps it's something like a Baker's cyst. Get it checked out if your concerned.

I have two fairly large popliteal (Baker's) cysts behind each knee and have had them for many years, way before PE. They've never caused me any pain although Mayo Clinic says pain can be there.

My podiatrist takes a fairly benign attitude about them and says that usually they're not operated on because of all nerves/muscles in that area.

Do you have a swelling behind the knee(s)? I do---- and it grew slowly over the years then seemed to stop growing---- but no pain.

Ask your doctor, of course, since you have pain.

They never found a DVT with me either, but I had and continue to have some odd calf pain and it will occassionally go to my knee. It's rarely behind the knee (sorry, I know this doesn't help, lol).
I DO know that it started to hurt/feel weird more when I became more active again.
I agree that if you're worried, get it checked out. :)

I'm one month post PE and I had some stiffness and soreness in my calves and behind my knees about 2 weeks ago. Like you, a Doppler showed no clots in my legs when I was diagnosed. My Hematologist did not think it was anything alarming. Fortunately, it just went away after a few days. I was in a panic thinking it was another clot that was now developing in my legs. If it persists, just get it checked. Hopefully it will just go away like it did with me.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
