By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Back to work after 4 1/2 months off

Finally today i returned to work after 4 1/2 months off since my PE's in October 2011. Just worked a few hours, my employers are supporting my phased return over the next 3 months so that i can increase my workload gradually without overdoing things. I feel quite emotional that ive managed to walk back through those doors and return to 'normality' as there was a time when i wondered if i would ever see this day! It was great to see all the familiar faces. Monday mornings can be a nightmare sometimes after having a weekend off but today i virtually skipped into the office - i do hope the enthusiasm continues! After being in a meeting for just over an hour and talking constantly i felt my lungs a bit uncomfy but some quiet time at my pc afterwards sorted that out. They have given me the day off tomorrow to rest so roll on wednesday - let the madness begin!

Great news. I'm happy for you and glad they will work with you.

I made 8 hours today. And only had 2 coughing fits. I make about 2 hours on the phone and then I start to cough. And by the end of the day, my voice was a little hoarse. And tired.......

thanks everyone! i ended up going to bed at 8.30pm and didnt wake until 8am this morning! oops! i must admit i am relieved that i didnt have to do it all again today - it truly is going to be a long process to full recovery but im looking forward to being back in the office again tomorrow.

2nd day back in the office and after 2 1/2 hrs i came home and fell asleep! i am grateful for the rest day in between. dr's again tomorrow and then back in office friday. i started to sneeze quite a lot this afternoon - just hope ive not picked up any germs while in the office - dont want to come down with a cold - thats all i need!

When I went back to work, that's all I did was sleep. I'd crawl in bed once I got home and then wake up the next morning. That is very normal, and doesn't last forever. Just keep plugging away!

im feeling totally rubbish today so i can only assume that yesterday must have been too much - i went to bed again early but woke in the night with my chest feeling uncomfy - i knew then that i had done too much - so glad i wasnt due to be in the office today - hope i feel better tomorrow - lots of rest and hot water bottles for me!

It takes time. I'm not making a full 40 hour week yet. But it's good to hear others who are in the same place as me. I am feeling better, though, every day. You will get there. I made 2 eight hour days and then took one day off. The doctors keep saying "it takes time", but you do get frustrated. Keep at it

ive felt really rubbish and extremely tired all day until tea time and then i perked up a wee bit - hope it lasts so that i can work my few hours tomorrow - i would feel terrible saying i cant go in as i have hardly been back! my husband keeps reminding me that i dont have to go if im not fit for it. i just dont want to be a seen as a lazy skiver - people see me & think i look great - all better - unfortunately its whats going on inside thats the problem. today i have messy hair and no makeup and it was too much effort to do any more than i absolutely had to. tomorrow is another day! night all.

Several of us were discussing that very thing at work. To look at us we don't "look" sick. So, why aren't we at work. In fact, people tell me I look GREAT!!! Of course, I've also lost 30 pounds while I was off work. I was working on several of my medical conditions along with the PE.

i managed 2 hours at work on fri but it really was a struggle! honestly! LOL. i wonder if i have gone back too quick but on the other hand im glad i have gone back as i think i would have totally forgotten how to do my job had i been off any longer, the brain fog is terrible - by the time i come home from work its like information overload and i cant have sensible conversation any longer, my mum was offering to write things down for me as i couldnt remember a conversation we had less than 2 minutes ago! oops

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
