Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

are clots worse each generation?

Hi everyone,

Anyone else's family like this?

We only have one clotting gene in our family (Type I HAD), but the clots get worse each generation.

1) My brother and me and my cousins with HAD: serious clots in our 20s with no provocation.
2) My mom and aunts and uncles with HAD: serious clots after childbirth and/or in middle age.
3) My grandma with HAD: 9 pregnancies and only 1 DVT!.

What gives?

-Glad to be alive, but still very frustrated sometimes

Exactly. Why some people with clotting orders suffer clots and other don't is still a mystery. Usually, it is not the clotting disorder in itself which is the cause of the clot. Other risk factors that when associated with a person with clotting disorders are usually the catalyst. Some of the more common risk factors are oral contraceptives, HRT, trauma, pregnancy, cancer, certain surgeries, age, etc..

How we end up with the short straw is yet to be determined.

Lifestyle factors change from one generation to the next. Mostly the tendency is toward more sedentary ways, which is supposed to raise the general level of risk.

Or, you can be the one who does all things right, eats the right stuff, keeps extremely active, and THAT becomes the reason to get hit young.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
