Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I'm rehabing from ankle reconstruction (in addition to PE/DVT), my lungs have cleared 90% and Monday will be my 3 month monthaversary (like you) of my clotting event (July 5th). I have ankle therapy 2-3 days a week since August and on days when I work really hard, a day or so later, I am still SOB and feel rogue pains in my chest/back. This really spooked me for the first couple of times but for me now is "new normal". Looks like if I workout really hard the lungs complain for a day or two. My pulmonologist raised his eyebrows when I mentioned it but the films and function are normal. By in large the activity seems to have reduced swelling in the leg a little too and I am having some less pain/swelling, a little less often. I have good days and some where I feel like poo, but try hard to keep a positive outlook. Keep venting, hanging in and there will be good days and bad days but hopefully more good than bad 8-) -P
I don't think that there is a 'normal' recovery period, and from what I've been reading on this site and others everyone has different experiences and there is no particular set period of time when you should feel 100%. I'm only 22 and had a second occurance of multiple PEs about 2 months ago now - also don't compare yourself to anyone else either, the recovery time for someone else is not necessarily what is right for you!
Just take it easy and things will get better :-)
