Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Hi everyone,
I had my PE in 2015 and was doing well but recently I've been going through a period of extreme stress and anxiety in my life and I've been having a lot of shortnes of breath and tightness in my chest, and some pain in my right side lung area. I don't know if it's anxiety or maybe more clots. I mentioned the symptoms to my dr and she didn't seem alarmed but I'm thinking of going to emerg to get checked out. The thing that stops me is I don't want any more CT scans because I feel I've already had too many for my age (42). My PE happened when I was pregnant and the hematologist didn't think it was necessary for me to take thinners when not pregnant, so I'm not on thinners.
Does anyone know anything about pulmonary hypertension? Does that happen sometimes after a PE? I'm wondering if maybe I could have that. I had clots in both lungs when I had my PE. The bigger ones were on the right side with some part of the lung that died because of lack of blood flow. The shortness of breath seems to come and go. Sometimes I think it's tied to the weather. I don't know what to do. I don't know what comes first -- the shortness of breath or the anxiety.
Any thoughts or insight would be welcome.
Thanks,
D-child

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Hyper tension can happen but I’d suspect you would have had on going symptoms.
And as far as not wanting more radiation. A clot can kill you. Radiation may or may not cause issues over time. So really you just have to weigh which risk seems like one you are willing to take. I’ve had 6 CT scans all within a year, when I was 42. That was over 10 years ago.
Google pursed lip breathing, it's a very simple technique that gets more oxygen into your bloodstream and also helps to short circuit the effects of anxiety.
