By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

a new journey

Hi All,
Its been a while since I've posted. I'll be on a new type of medical journey, one to fight some breast cancer. I hope not to make anyone anxious here about cancer as I don't believe my PE originated from it. On the contrary, my PE experience helped me to become more aware of my body and to help in part to uncover it early. The docs tell me if I'm going to have breast cancer, this is the best type to have, DCIS, which is just in a milk duct and is not a spreader. My rolodex of doctors is getting thicker ;-) I know I'm in great hands. I hope you are all well, God bless.

It sounds like you're tackling your new diagnosis with bravery and a positive attitude! I'm glad to hear that the lessons of the PE have served you so well as you go into this new battle. Please keep us updated on how you are doing as your treatment progresses.

My BFF is has been cancer free for 8 years now after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early 30s ... I hope for the same excellent results for you!

My mother developed breast cancer and has been cancer-free for just over 12 years, she caught it early and was treated well. The treatment is much better now than it was then, but she doesn't regret it at all (obviously).

Please keep us updated, and good for being aware of your body!

I have to say cancer is one of my greatest fears behind the cause of my PE. I'm so glad that you found yours early and that it's a "good" kind. What does the treatment plan look like? Surgery? Chemo? Radiation? Your calm demeanor and positive attitude are inspiring. May God bless you on this journey!

Most likely it will be a lumpectomy with radiation. If my gentic test comes back abnormal, I might opt for a double masectomy. I shouldn't need chemo for this, praise the Lord. I wish you peace in the midst of your worries. Remember that worrying about tomorrow just takes away today's peace.

Just a quick update, I found out I have the BRCA1 gene variant, so it is recommended I get a double mastectomy and also ovaries etc out since I'm at increased risk of ovarian cancer. Sorry for the news, and I really should post this on the breast cancer group which I have yet to do, but many of you have been with me through my PE journey and felt I should post here. I have some nervous butterflies as my surgery date is tentatively set for Sept. 24th. I'm better with Ironman/marathon pain, not surgery/recovery pain. No worries, everyone, I'll get through and will keep praying for you who are still going through PE recovery, healing, and the anxiety that can result.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
