Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Sorry you had to go through this. Due to your healthy lifestyle/seemingly no predisposing factors leading up to the PE, I would suggest asking your physician to check for blood disorders if they already haven't. Did they assign a hematologist to you in the hospital? If not I would definitely ask about seeing one.
Hope You're feeling better soon.
I'd make sure that they're checking your blood pressure regularly. Once you're getting treated, problems with BP can resolve so just stay on top of making sure you still need the BP med.
Also, not all of us get to know why we clotted. I've done it three times now and still have no idea. (I will note that I am quite atypical... most folks don't wind up as repeat clotters.)
Hang in there and read around on the boards! Lots of knowledge and experience here.
I usually don't post stuff but your story is so close to what happened to my husband. He to had what they called a unprovoked PE and DVT. He was also a vegetarian and was in the best shape he has ever been! After many blood test he was referred to a vascular doctor and had a ultra sound done, that is when he found out he had venous insufficiency which the doctor thinks caused the clots. Please ask to be referred to a vascular doctor if everything else comes back negative.
I also have to thank all the great people on this forum who have calmed my anxious thoughts. Thank you so much :)
