Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Today is 2 years since my 2 nd and largest PE.
It has been a day where I reflected on the PE and on the years since.
My first PE was during my last pregnancy, so after her birth I was on 3 months of injections and that was that.
My second PE was unexpected since they had previously attributed the PE to pregnancy and protein s deficiency causing it.
Then a few years later I felt short of breath, then woke one night thinking I was going to die. I went to the dr the next morning , luckily since my usual dr didn't have any appointments available and my original thought was to wait for her. Anyway, I was sent to emergency and then admitted to hospital where I remained for 9 days.
I have since discovered that I am a perfect genetic storm just waiting to happen.
I take Coumadin for life and have also had a clot behind my eye since then.
Life has been particularly challenging due to a couple of genetic hiccups I have inherited. I am very short of breath at the moment and struggling hugely with the weather ( very humid). I have also been in a lot of pain. I have trouble with my joints also .
This week my eldest child turned 13! My second child won a academic scholarship for high school and also got a place in a high achievers academy. 2 of my girls danced in a ballet recital last night. It was my youngests first concert. It was priceless. Even though it is difficult I think how lucky I am that I lived to see these moments. Every moment with them is precious ( even when they drive me crazy) and I am blessed to have the experience to cherish it.

I expect that I will always have difficulty now with shortness of breath as it is a complication of my connective tissue disorder, POTS and the aggravation of PE on top of that. Life is about how you choose to view things. I am lucky to have a beautiful family. 15 months is a very cute age. I love babies. Mj
I'm 2.5 years out, and mostly back to normal. Still some days when I just need to take a nap, but it's good to hear from others who have similar clot-a-versaries :-)
