By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
how much things change day by day.
I worked as an attorney for 10 years before my PE. In those 10 years, I have taken less than 5 sick days. I worked with the flu, with a cold, and I even worked with pneumonia. I have missed out on family functions, social functions, and I lost many relationships due to my work. I worked a minimum of 11 hours of a day and usually worked more. It was never enough and I have been told Im not dedicated enough if I happen to leave "early" one day -- early being 5:30 or 6. Heck, I sat there at work with clots in my lungs, not going to the hospital... b/c of that decision, I have permanent damage.
When I got my PE 3 weeks ago, I was told they would stand behind me, and that I should take off as much as I need, and work part-time "all summer." I was told that I could rely upon "my parnters" b/c that is what "partners are for."
I am suppose to be on limited hours, but felt good yesterday and so I worked till 4. Today I was told that maybe I should consider going on disability b/c Im "setting a bad model for the firm." I immediately bursted in tears and said that I can't believe the reaction when I have dedicated my life for the last 10 years. When I burst into tears, they said that I was over reacting and they were thinking of me. How exactly? Ive been crying since. I can't go on disability b/c I canot afford it. Its not a full salary and I have loans and just can't afford that. I can't work 12 hours like I use to. Im crying non stop now, and I can't stop, and just feel like I have nobody in my corner. Im in a no win situation.

I don't know where you live, but here, you'd have a good lawsuit against your firm if they dismissed you because of your (very temporary!) health issue. I assume you've explored that already?
And I also agree with Laura 100% - you need to be your own advocate in this instance, and treat yourself like you'd treat any of your clients. That means no crying...and kicking some butt if you need to. It's tough, but you need to BE tough right now (at least in front of your colleagues).

Hopefully when the jerk partner gets back from vacation, he will see the light. You are setting a great example for your colleagues. You rae doing your best after havining a life threatening event and making it toi work each day. I would think that anyone would be glad to have you there for 50 to 75% of the time, rather than 0% of the time.
It was terrible to have hime add this additional stress to an already stressful situation.
