By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Hi all,
on May 24th it was one year since I was hospitalized for my bilateral PE.
I wanted to give everybody a quick update, perhaps it is useful for the "new" people.
In January/February, when I had a new scan performed, the doctors found out that I still have clots lodged in my left lung. They thought that therapy would not help, but that I need to be checked every once in a while for the risk of developing pulmonary hypertension. In my last examinations, my heart seemed fine, and now I have my next check-up in the beginning of July.
I can say that I have resumed my normal life, I even got back to running and I had a couple of races in April/May. I am so happy about this!
However, the lung infarction I had left me with a "weird" feeling in my left lung and some nasty chronic pain, but I will probably get used to it in the end. Also, my body does not react well to stress, compared to my pre-PE situation (I felt so invincible at the time!). Nonetheless, it is amazing to have come this far.
I just wanted to tell everybody new on here that you will feel better and better as time passes and, even if you will have to stand some minor nuisances/complications, it just feels good to go back to your routine!

And congrats on the racing! That's great.
Docs all say to exercise at the gym regularly but I am not really able to do that.
I'm glad you are better.
I might be better off NOT lifting weights but hate to give it up. Thanks!
