i went to a dermatologist to get some meds for my psoriasis. all the meds were over 200 dollars each, and i had like 4 prescriptions. i could only get one which was only 16 dollars.... i use it on all my areas even tho it was only prescribed for a certain spot, and it works great! (my derm said it was ok to do that) what i need help with though is that I have psoriasis on my scalp, and it itches REALLY bad. does anyone know of something I can get at the store for cheap that I can use for my scalp? i was prescribed a shampoo but that was over 600 dollars!!!! for only a month! crazy, i know! lol. i need some help tho finding something for my scalp because I have something called Trichotilomania which means I pull out my hair, and when my head is itching, it stresses me out, and then I pull more. so I need some help with finding a medication! thanks =]

I have heard that glycerin mixed 50/50 with aloe vera gel helps. You may want to try some coal tar items such as Psoriacin. Helps me.

Problem is the drug companies as well as the National Psoriasis Foundation make well over 3 billion dollars a year selling people like you and me these outlandish drugs that do nothing in the long run and are dangerous to your health.

The doctors only prescribe what they are taught and trained and virtually owned by the drug companies.

Someone will eventually find a cure and if they are not bought out by these drug companies, offer to us at an affordable price.

I wish there was something I could say or recommend for you but big brother controls it all.

For temporary relief, O'Oreal makes a Nature's Therapy Scalp Relief leave-in-tonic that really relieves the itching, it smells good, and isn't too expensive. It can be purchased at beauty supply stores. It's in a green plastic bottle that has a pointy cap so you can aim it right at the itchy spots. It's great for right before bed, or any other time. I am sorry for all your discomfort and now added stress of not being able to purchase things that will help you. Are you willing to try a biological treatment? I have had psoriasis over ten years and psoriatic arthtritis to the point i could not sleep and was in state of constant discomfort. My derm hellped my apply to the Abbott Patient assistancce foundation and they now send my injection pens. Since I started the treatment, my skin has returned 95% back to no itchy, scratchy, inflammed patches, and minimal joint pain. I can wear shoes and slleep at night. I have learned that exposure to certain foods and things in food have a major affect on miserable i felt. Rememberer to breathe slowly to help with relaxation, stay overly moisturized and please consider Humira injections as they are the only thing that have helped

I heard those injections can cause hair loss and w my trich I would become more depressed w losing my hair more than I already am..

Baby oil is cheap and works for me. I put it on my scalp, then pop a shower cap on while sleeping. I use baby shampoo in the shower as it helps to pull out oil. I hope this helps you to get some relief.

The best i found is clobetasol, not sure on the spelling. Its drops i put on my scalp about 2 to 3 times a week it works wonders on my scalp. I dont think its that much but u do nee a prescription.

I have horrible psoriasis on my scalp and I have been using Clobex (clobetasol propionate). It is really expensive without insurance, but they have a rebate offer on their website right now where you pay only $35 out of pocket if you have any insurance. Otherwise, dermarest shampoo works well at reducing the itchiness and redness for me. I think it costs less than $10 a bottle and can be found at most pharmacies.

I live in South Africa. It seems that all of us have the same problem. Our condition is not covered by medical aid and the products that actually work are extremely expensive. I've had to cut my hair to make treatment easier because I've been pulling out my hair to the point where I've had bald spots. Now I've also had to stop colouring my hair, which is really embarrasing because at 37 I'm completely grey. I'm still in the process of growing out my brown (coloured) hair, which makes me look and feel like trash. Has anyone else got any ideas for colouring hair that doesn't feel like someone has taking a blow torch to your scalp?
