It's classic for IH.you are getting a shunt right? When most people get a shunt it goes away :) I would say mine went away but it didn't but only because of another condition that causes it. I have also heard that it can come and go.

I usually consider it as a sign that my pressure is high. When are you scheduled for shunt surgery? I think the last time you post you said you had just had an appointment with the NS. How did that go?

Yes I did see a NS he wents me to get a
MRV and a MRA done on this Thursday and
Then next Thursday he's going to go over
The results he said I have to get these two things
Done to see if the viens in my head are large
Enough for the vp shunt because if it isn't im going to have
To go get and LP shunt

But has any of you had a MRA done? If so does it hurt

Use a vien that's by your groin area and that's how
They get the dye in and I've also seen one where it says
They just use a normal arm IV to do it
Also I seen somewhere that after its done you have
To lay still for 4 hours is this true?

It's easy, promise.
I've had them, just like getting an MRI, with dye.
Injected in your arm vein, mouth tastes metalicly for a min, but other than that, no big deal. Promise.

Unfortunately, the swooshing comes with the territory. Mine was improved with the shunt! However, I know when my shunt is ineffective because that comes back. for me, it's more of a hum than a woosh. Anyway, the MRA is no big deal! Good luck!

I've had whooshing in my right ear non-stop for almost a year now. It's really loud and it effects my ability to hear as well. Somehow I've gotten used to it. It is still annoying at times and it aches, but, it's become a part of my daily life. It really is amazing how we grow accustomed to things.

As for the MRA MRV, I had an IV pick put in my arm and they injected the dye in there. It wasn't painful at all. You just have to lie still for a while in the tube. It's loud, but they give you earplugs. It may seem scary, but, it's really not.

Hey there,

The whooshing sound is pulsatile tinnitus, which is pretty common with IIH. It usually relates to how high the pressure is. I've had it non-stop in my righ ear for about 4 months though. It dissapears after a Lumbar Puncture for about 1-2 hours but then it always comes back.

I'm due for an LP shunt and i've heard that it will go away after surgery.

Hopefully you can get rid of it soon!
