I had one done a few years ago. I was out the same day. You are just given something to relax (like Verced) and not full anesthesia. It does hurt, but only for a few seconds. It is all over pretty quickly. Then you just relax for a day or so.

I've had 2 of these, one was during surgery (for my stent surgery) and one other just this past August. They give you something to relax you - you honestly do not even remember the procedure...at all! The contrast dye is nothing different than what they give you during a CT scan, just drink lots of water the next few hours to days afterwards to flush it out of your system, and if you take any diabetic medication do not take it for the next three days following it.
The worst thing is that your leg is a little stiff from where they went in with the catheder. You won't be able to lift more than a gallon of milk for about a week so be careful since this is a main artery. But other than that you can't see an incision or anything because its not bigger than a pin hole...really!
I promise its more aggravating wating for the procedure than it is actually having it. I don't remember any of it. I had one to get my stenting surgery done for narrowing LH&RH transverse sinus and one to check on my stents a year and a half after my surgery.

I had one as well about a year ago. They give you Versed usually which is an amnesiac. You can hear them somewhat and answer questions but you don't really remember from one minute to the next. I was CRAZY scared but the whole thing was actually very relaxing and the team around you is very supportive and they watch you very carefully !! The worst part was keeping your leg stretched out and flat for a few days because of the catheter having been in your groin. You'll go in and you'll be done and you will be in recovery and go home. It's usually outpatient. You may be a little dizzy when you wake up from the drugs but it usually clears pretty quick. I didn't feel like myself for a good few weeks. The dye, you probably won't feel and if you are lucky ( I hear) you may see a fantastic light show behind your eyes when they shoot the dye in !!!! I have heard it's pretty cool but I don't remember if I saw anything! Good luck !!
