Yes it can via mass effect. High pressure can squish the pituitary and cause malfunction. As you know this is the master gland and your hormones can be affected. Can does not mean will, OK? About pregnancy and IH, Dr's recommend a high-risk OBGYN and making a decision 35 week to determine size of baby to pelvis ratio and consider c-section. You need to remember your fluids naturally increase with pregnancy and labor is the biggest valsalva maneuver, this can push your brain down into your spinal column. Remember too most insurance companies have a 1 year pre-existing condition exclusion. Find out how this works or you could get a terrrible surprise with uncovered medicals. Get the insurance and wait one year before getting pregnant, and you can't leave your OBGYN ignorant, its too dangerous for you and baby. CYA so you can enjoy the blessed event!

Thank you and I am speechless. I don't have any insurance. So seeing anyone except for the health dept which whom is ignorant to this is either out of the question or extremely pricey.

Well, you can still be proactive. Gather all your old records related to PTC. What you really want is your your x-rays, not just a paper report, you want the actual films or a copy of them on disc. There might be a small fee depending on who has them but this is really important to have in your hand because it is your baseline study. I make copies of the copies! Remember you only have one file to keep track of and things get lost, plus most doctors like to see the actual pictures because things get missed in radiology. Did anyone figure out or even try to discover what caused your PTC? Maybe it can be fixed! Do research and take info to the clinic, even in private practice we have to educate doctors about this, they can't know everything. Diamox is cheap so you can probably afford this, start much lower and take longer to up the dose than prescribed. Getting taps to deal with pressure is no longer advised, avoid taps as much as you can. Epidural is dicey for you too. Just begin reading and learning as much as you can and you'll be prepared and confident with your plans and decisions. You are already starting, good for you!

i have a copy of my MRI on a disc. I was told that diamox was about it when it came to treating this and I cant take that . I have even tried breaking those into quaters and taking 1/4 pill at a time. still cant take it. And no. no one ever told me what they thought caused it. They said there was no known cause for PTC. I was diagnosed when I was 18 but i remember seeing the bubbles and hearing the ringing in my ears since I was a small child! my mom had hydrocephalus but that was drained and it never returned. When I first found out about this I did alot of research on this. My NS did not give me much info. lose weight, stop birth control. and when I have headaches lay flat. that was all she told me. everything else I know is bc i found out for myself. I changed and revised alot of things i did. i still feel lost honestly. My health dept doesnt have a DR staffed there. at all. only nurses and this is a very rural community.

Well I don't know much about PTC and pregnancy but I do have a Chiropractor that I see and he HIGHLY recommended going to get and alignment while pregnant to relieve tension in the body and that it would also assist in a lessening pain and help to increase blood circulation to the baby. Now granted this is a smaller area but for the alignment it was only $30 per visit at this particular office, so that might be worth looking into. He wasn't very familiar with my condition but he because very interested the more I talked about it. Good night and Good luck.

I was diagnosed DURING pregnancy. So as far as PTC while pregnant, it is very tricky and does make it a high risk pregnancy. That said, Diamox or Lasix are diuretics and NOT SAFE during pregnancy. It will actually abort your baby. So absolutly NO meds like that during pregnancy. If you are on that meds I am pretty sure you WONT even get pregnant. I had to wait until my daughter was born and you have to have a C-Section because pushing during labor can cause a brain anurism. I was also hospitalized because of low amniotic fluid which they gave me IV fluids for and because of the IV fluids, it made the PTC worse because the extra fluid increased the fluid production. It was HORRIBLE!!! I suggest talking to a doctor about "trying" and see what suggestions they have. PTC and Pregnancy really dont mix and it is NOT fun! I was on bedrest and had to have LP's every 6 days for 4 months. I also had her by Emergency C-Section prematurly. I was on narcotic pain meds for 6 months while pregnant and when she was born she was addicted and had withdrawals. And my OB and neurologist new everything and prescribed the meds to me because they couldn't do their normal course of treatment for PTC while pregnant. I also got gestational diabetes which even complicated things even more.
I am not trying to discourage you, but trust me, especially since your health is compramised, you REALLY want a healthy baby and because of your health, you really need to talk with a high risk OB before getting pregnant and talk about ALL your options. I know the blessings bringing a child in this world bring, but it is really hard to be sick and have a newborn too. If you can at all wait until your health improves, that would be the best route. My daughter is 18 months old now, and I miss so much of her life because I am sick. I also have a son that will be 3 in a month. It kills me being sick all the time with my kids suffering cause mommy is right here but "unavailable".
My OB also had previously treated a patient that was pregnant with PTC so he knew all about it, and that is a rare find.

I will def look into that. I have wanted a child for so long now. I take my sister and her daughter places and people stop and adore joss (my neice) and I just stand off to the side. Its depressing. That's not my child. That's here. And she's the mother. Not me. I've tried watching other neices and nephews back I just love kids and I actually had the mother tell me she will not have someone help raise her kids when they don't have any of their own. Wow that just put a knife right thru me. When I've gotten LPs done they seemed to work for me for atleast a year. But now I've heard that isn't reccomended anymore. But if I had one of those maybe that would help. After I've had LPs I was able to stop diamox. And I've never been put on lasix. Actually didn't even know that was a treatment till I joined here. He is checking his fertility to see if its him. Maybe I will do same and talk to my PCP next Friday about TTC with IH
