I don't know why but your not alone...I don't do it everyday like I did closer to my surgeries but I still have my days where I sleep 15hrs wake up for 5-6 and then still go back to sleep for 8-9more.

opposite for me so tired cant sleep 2 am here just woke up a hour ago killing me need sleep cath is right it may be a good thing embrace it your body my need that healing time hope thats all and you are feeling more energetic and less iih soon

I have found that my body tends to take sleep in patterns based on how much I give it. I other words if I sleep 10 hours then it seems to always crave 10 hours but if I break the cycle and only give it 7 hours then it will get used to that and only crave 7.

Just a thought.

good point it was my boy who broke my sleep cycle my sister can sleep 12 hrs and and nothing will disturbe her enough for her to wake up kids phone door but i am petrifide and sleep very lightly since my daughter being sure she is breathing i am used to waking and "dealing" with the exhaustion so when i was diagnosed when my son was born i never got to rest or give in to the exhaution that my body craved having a baby to look after alone i hope it is just your ability to sleep causing you to be more tired... oh one other thing even numbers are better than odd 8 instead of 9 hours sleep etc dont know why just a study i read once

I don't sleep well at night, but then sleep late into the day and sometimes sleeping most of the day away! I feel as if I can't get enough sleep, just not at night. My usual bedtime ranges from 2am to 4am. It gets frustrating.

Thanks for your responses. TJ, I have tried what you suggest. It certainly makes sense that you can train your body that way as our brains come with it's own time clock. Therefore if we sleep 7 or 8 hours our body gets used to that amount of time.

However, as many of you know I have had some struggles with this new shunt. Out of concern I looked up some information about shunt failure and how one can tell if their shunt isn't working properly. Certainly, the biggest signs and concerns are fever and/or discharge and redness from the incision site. Additionally, headaches and vomiting also signal malfunction. But, they also said that chronic lethargy was another. With shunt malfunction, the patient might sleep a lot...eventually getting more difficult to wake....and if left untreated, they could end up in a coma.

I certainly hope this isn't what I am experiencing, which is why I wrote about the subject. I was curious as to how many of you who had shunts slept in such large amounts after surgery.

just a note i ran out of pain meds a couple days ago and have never been so tired in my life all i have done is yawn and sleep if im up i feel like crap im so exhausted i have a new script and took a different painmed and felt better but just maybe it is pain assosiated my incision is red and oozes but i have a review in 9 days so will discuss with docs then... maybe pain is a contributing factor to your lethargy mine was nothing i have ever felt befor and reading your last comment made me womder...
