It involves a simple sleep study. You guessed it. You just sleep. No pain, no trouble. They put a bunch of electrodes on your head, heart, and limbs, you have a nice warm cup of tea, and bonk. You are out for the night. If you are worried have your doctor prescribe a sleeping pill in advance. The sleep study doesn't just test for apnea, it also tests for a bunch of other sleep disorders, like restless leg syndrome.
I've had a sleep study and use a CPAP machine. It's made a world of difference.
My husband has sleep apnea though and sleeps with a CPAP. You can get it to cover your nose and mouth or just your nose which he finds more comfortable. Apnea can cause a range of other things too including heart related so it is definitely worth looking in to.
