I have never had it done, but I have watched the procedure several times on others (vaginal and abdominal access). The procedure is over pretty quickly and is only as uncomfortable as a pelvic exam or getting a shot for pain. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Please let us know how you're doing and how it goes?

Ok. thats not the test i was having today!! They only measured the neck fat. i got to see my baby today. all is great! BBy is 2.5 inches long with 162 heartbeats a minute. and baby moves alot!!! But doc wants me to take diamox????? Thought that was bad in the first twenty weeks. both docs says diamox is a class c drug and is a safe drug?????

My mom had to have this test. She was producing too much amineotic (sp?) fluid when she was having my sister. It was to make sure the baby was alright..my mom had so much excess fluid they thought she was having twins- scared her to death :)

I took diamox periodically while pregnant with my daughter. My doctor said to just listen to my body but this was PCP not a neurologist. I actually had less problems while pregnant when i weighed more than i do now. As for that procedure, highest risk is infection or bag of water rupturing and pretty slm, but risks with any procedure. Why are you having it done? Also are you having a vag or c section? Some docs prefer c sections for PTC patients to avoid increasing intracranial pressure, i researched this while pregnant. I ended up having a c section myself but due to a stubborn baby. Good luck!

The CVS teating is a one in a series of.tests they do for finding birth defects. doc told me 1 in 500 women who do it miscarrry. i do not want to go thru that again. but by measuring the neck fat. its called nuch something. they can give a medical assumption basically of wether or not your child will have down syndrome. if it measures less than 2.5 ( idk if.its mm or what) that its likely your child will not have down syndrome. they also did blood work. they are sending me to a nuerologist and putting me on diamox and ordering a glucose tolerance test. idk y. maybe from the blood work. ive had two episodes this week at work however and the emts thought my blood sugar may have been low

Are you considered high risk because you are over 35? Or because of the IIH ? I had the special ultrasound you are talking about (nuchal fold or translucency) because I was 35 with my second baby. Back in my day, they wouldn't schedule the CV or Amnio testing until after your blood work was back and something was off, which is not uncommon at all. When will you get the results of the ultrasound, or did you already? Isn't that image just awesome to look at?
everyone also has to have the glucose test. You have to drink a little bottle of super sugared soda pop kind of drink and sit in the office an hour then get your blood drawn. If that test is off you will have to do a 3 hour sugar test and then you will be monitored for diabetes.
How far along are you? If your ultrasound was ok then you probably do not have to have the other CV testing. Make sure you talk to your doctor about why and what it is they are looking for.

To amy. I am.considered high risk bc of.iih. I'm 23. The nuch test was optional. i chose to. i will get my reaults in the morning. but i will not have the amnio or cvs testing done. no thank you. lol. i am 13 weeks. so.I'm not sure why we are doing a glucose testing . i was told by another doctoc that the glucose test isnt done untill 20-26 weeks. i guess we will find out in the morning.

Thats great! Congratulations! And I think the ultrasound you had is considered more accurate now than the blood panel. I am not sure why they are having you do the sugar test this early but maybe they just want to be cautious and cover all the bases. It would be better to know early. Good luck!
