hello everyone, well yesterday i had my surgery i guess they call it a revision. the main reason i had this done was to stop all back and chest pain.The doctor was thinking maybe the tube in my spine was irratating a nerve that goes up in the the chest cativites,,,so i came in yesterday to have this fix..well at least hoping to! failed! im still having my back n chest problems..when i have a episode it feels like my chest is litteraly locked and is hard for me to breath and it it goes around my rib cage..has any of u guys ever expeience this? espeically after a placement of a lp shunt? any solutions? im here at ucsf which should be one of the best hospitails in the world right? but know one understanads whats wrong with me :( i dont want 2 go though surgery again AT ALL! yesterday was a back outcome..i woke up out of anethisa having an asthma attck and tachycardia..,very scary! please keep me in ur guyes prayers as i will do the same for u all!

When I first had the shunt placed, I had terrible pain in my chest and shoulders, the surgeon said that it was referred pain from the tube tickling my diaphram....didn't feel like a tickle to me!!! Anyway it did calm down but after the revision started all over again. I was having some pain in my back and he said if it kept up that he could back the valve out a touch in the event it was agrivating a nerve but that also calmed down.
I pray that your will settle down and not require any further surgery. Unfortunately, I think shunts cause lots of pain for almost everyone....not something the drs explain beforehand. Big hugs!!!
I have both the LP and VP shunt. After the placement of the LP shunt I started having sharp pains in my rib cage, and back. After research I found that it was the CSF . What we belive is that it was creating pockets in my abd. It really hurts. But rest and heat packs help.
