I must have to much time on my hands to think about stuff like this but I have noticed that most of us have complained that are symptoms are worse on the right side. Headache, vision, eye pain, ear pain, ear whooshing, etc all seem worse on the right side. Has anyone else noticed that? I know it is a 50/50 thing either the right or the left but to me it just seemed like everyone has been screaming right side is affected worse. Not knowing the human brain and anatomy well enough to say, it does make me wonder if that is a coincidence or if there could be a connection to the pain or condition itself and the side of the brain we expeirence it more on.
Sorry for the spelling errors. IIH has ruined my chances of ever winning a spelling bee. Not that I was in the running before but geesh it's gotten bad.

Its interesting you say this because all my symptoms are right sided. My vision and the ear noise are but the pain is all over my entire head and down my neck and spine.
I just had an LP shunt placed almost two weeks ago and I had the worst low pressure headaches. it was aweful. Im sad to say now I think the shunt is already failing. The high pressure returned and though it eased the headaches It brought back all the symptoms.

Mine is primarily right-sided. When it gets really bad it takes over and affects both sides, but always starts on the right. I have a large vein that is partially closed off on the right side, just prior to draining down the neck. I am not sure if more flow goes out the right side, that is a good question. It seems like my lumbar puncture is always done to the right side as well. Maybe one of the nurses here knows more and can fill us in :)

Venous pressure or an isolateral musculoskeletal strength dominance issue. I guess...

Well hopefully this will be answered for us soon, this is just the issue thats been raised and i always challenge Dr. on. Dec. 3 and 16 consulting about fibromuscular displasia, it would explain all of this nightmare i have been through to include pressure, paps, hindbrain heriation, blood results you name it. Oh oh, and even the hula hoop/rainstick sound in my head and neck. Lets all keep our fingers crossed that this shows something because like i believe and my NO said, this maybe the cure or cause of IIH. FMD isthought to be rare, but esrimates are 50 million Amrican have this and are misdiagnosed, or un dx.

interesting thought. my headaches are moslty right sided but my left eye is worse. strange.

I am like you Amy, my symptoms are primarily right sided but when it gets bad enough it is all over. According to the MRI's though all my veins, arteries, ventricles and all that good junk are normal sized and functioning just fine.
Most likely unrelated but worth mentioning, they have always told me with all my sinus surgeries and countless infections that my right maxiallry sinus damage/disease is always far worse than my left. Generally this is true too for my frontal sinus infections and ear infections but I do not get them nearly as often as I get "normal" sinus infections.

It does point to some underlying problem Danielle. I have also read that the problem I have with the vein may also have some connection to sinus and ear infections, which I had and was put on the antibiotic Levaquin, when I first experienced symptoms and ended up in the hospital. Levaquin is also on the list of drugs that cause increased cranial pressure. When it was happening I was sure it was the drug. I actually managed to type a note to my doctor and told him I was sure I was having a bad reaction to Levaquin and was almost delirious. Is was the weekend and he told me to get someone to take me to the ER. That was the beginning of this whole mess!

My vision is far worse in the right eye. My neuro says he thinks it's the brain, not the eye nerves/disc. Also the drip drip drip I hear and the tinnitus is far worse on the RH side. Headache is usually all over but is sometimes worse on the LH side. Makes no sense. I've quit trying to understand.
