My neuro did give the okay for it because I have PCOS and I was already developing cysts. Either way, it's really your decision. You could even try a trial of the progesterone to see how it may or may not affect your IH and if the trade off is something you can deal with. It may mean most doctor visits, but if it works it'll be worth it, if not then you can figure out what your next steps will be.
I hope that you find something to help in your decision and you can always call and ask you neuro about it yourself. Oh, and it sounds like you have a really good doc if he's willing to call your neuro. I wish they'd all do that.
