I thought I had seen a post here at one time regarding dental problems caused by intercranial pressure. I rarely have dental problems, but, over the past few days my gum in the back of my mouth has become inflamed and painful. Now certainly I could have brushed too hard or gotten something stuck in there, but as I am dealing with IIH I thought it might be possible to have a connection. Anyone know?
Additionally, as i have mentioned before I am struggling with an ongoing Urinary Tract Infection. When I was a kid I used to get these all the time. (Subsequently, my daughters had them and due to new technologies they were diagnosed with kidney reflux syndrome...which is what they thought I had as a kid.) By the time I was 21, I stopped getting these infections and as such I haven't had any til now. Initially, I thought they started due to the catheterization that was done in the hospital. Once we cleared that up I thought it was due to the Diamox. But, now I'm not on any medication. One day I'll feel fine and the next day I have a returning UTI. I am constantly taking AZO to numb the burning sensation. Then, a few days later I'll feel fine and won't need to take anything. Has anyone else had this problem outside of urologic issues stemming from drugs like Diamox? Have any of you read about or have knowledge of this problem being caused from IIH?

I now get swelling sometimes in my mouth on my gums, but I can't tell if it is related to IH or not, or just that I didn't floss good enough or irritated my gum in someway.
I saw your other post about aspertane(sp?), that was really interesting, because I put it in my tea (interestingly I got severe headaches whenever I tried to use splenda and when I tried stevia). I know it causes weight gain around the stomach so I have been cutting back on using it, I can't eat sugar since it makes my anxiety go through the roof..have you heard of anyother sugar substitues that are better for you, besides stevia? I know that being dehydrated can cause UTI's, (and since diamox is a diurectic). I'm worried about you getting them since it can turn into a kidney infection or adversly affect your kidneys. I know that years ago I used to get them fairly often so the Dr. put me on a daily low dose antiobiotic which helped prevented them from reoccuring (it worked).
My nephrologist was thinking he might start me doing that again if I have another UTI soon.
Since it is hard to drink cranberry juice for me, esp. since it has sugar in it, I used to take cranberry supplements. Also, there is now an over the counter urine test to see if you have a UTI, I found mine at walgreen's. It's really easy to use.
Okay I just did a quick search and found this from a Dr. who was responding to someone who wrote in with a question about her having a bladder/kidney infections:
"High urine pH can be caused by certain medications (such as Diamox, used to treat eye disorders), chronic urinary tract infections, vegetarian diets, and a disorder called RTA (or renal tubular acidosis), which your nephrologist should be able to detect with appropriate testing"
Very intersting that she mentioned Diamox causing the higher urine PH which is a symptom of having a UTI!
Hope I helped in some small way, I don't know if your insurance would allow you to see a urologist, but maybe a specialist could help you find the right answer and get you to start feeling better, we want to protect your kidneys and have you stop suffering. Blessings, Jazzy
Thanks for responding. I stopped taking Diamox a little over a month ago now and am not currently on any other meds. Although, Diamox and/or the catheterization (sp?) that I received may have started this infection and I can't seem to get rid of it. Hopefully, I'll be able to get rid of it soon. BLAH!

It feels like a wisdom tooth is trying to come in back there, but I had them all cut out a couple of years ago!
