So, I had an LP yesterday. It's the first I've had since my diagnosis 8 months ago. Pressure is still elevated. OP was 25 and he took me down to 17. But, it's a lot lower than my first one which was 38. Paps are gone, no headaches, but I still have the whooshing. So, he wants me to follow up in a few days and we'll discuss whether to raise my Diamox up or leave it alone.

I do have to say that I have an awesome neurologist. Both of my taps have not been too bad. Of course they weren't fun, and there was some discomfort, but compared to some of the horror stories I think it went really well. I'm pretty sore today though.

We did have an interesting conversation though about getting a "spinal headache" afterwards though. I asked him how long he recommended I lay flat when I got home. And, he said to go ahead and lie down for the rest of the evening, because that's still the "protocol". However, there hasn't been any studies that have actually showed a connection between laying flat and avoiding the headache. Instead, he said it has to do with the technique of how the needle is put in. If the bevel of the needle goes parallel with the fibers as opposed to cutting across the fibers, you are less likely to get a spinal headache. He said that's the only way he does it and he has really great results. Apparently there is conclusive research that this technique works. Interesting, huh?

Well, even so, I didn't take any chances. Laid flat rest of the day and haven't gotten any headache. Phew!
