Inner ear pressure...

Over the past week I have experienced some inner ear pressure in the right ear only. (Which is the same side my VP shunt is on.) In addition, there have been times this past week when I have sat down to eat and I would feel increasing inner ear pressure (right sided) with each bite down. Eventually the pressure would reach a high pressure and my ear would POP...and then the process would start again.

For those of you with VP shunts...have you experienced this before? Prior to my shunt I have not had this experience, other than when traveling in a car or plane. Things just keep getting curiouser and curiouser.

no i haven't all i can think of is that both my ears get "full" and i have to yawn alot but apart from that it may be a blockage in the enuchien(?sp) tube so when you chew it fills with pressure until there is enought to make it "pop" i had blocked tubes last year and nothing i tried worked but i couldn't afford much in the way of medical stuff... good luck hope it is something simple

Hi MM3. I dont have this as such, I have it in my nose! It feels like a lot of pressure build up and if I hold my nose closed and blow, it releases it. Very srtrange and only since I had a VP shunt fitted last year. I also get it if I slip down the pillows at night. ( i sleep on 3 at the moment.) Cath.

Not for me either. Maybe a coincidence, do you think you might have an ear infection or something.

Um... I do. No shunt, lots of ear pressure. Pops all the time. Remember me describing the pain as my brain trying to escape out of my ear? Drives me nuts. But that's not a far drive these days.

Yep, Bax...I was quoting Alice as I tend to feel a bit like her these days. Caught in a world I don't much recognize as my own anymore.

I don't remember the inner ear pressure as much before my surgery, but I do believe it's from high pressure. Funny thing is....I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE HIGH PRESSURE ANYMORE...WTH???

Bax, the way you explain it is exactly how it felt too...like my brain was trying to escape out my ear. Hmmmm...???
